Walk and Talk Therapy

an outside-the-box approach to healing

Inspiring change, one step at a time

Walk and Talk therapy is a great option for you

if you love nature and want to take a more active approach to your wellness. This option is often appealing to those who have had limited success with traditional talk therapy in the past.

Walk and Talk therapy has many wonderful research-backed benefits, such as:

  • Integrating your mind, body, and spirit as you explore your grief or loss

  • Opening up to a therapist while walking side by side comes more easily for some

  • Engaging your body and your breath to lower your stress response in real time

  • Moving from left to right helps you to process trauma and difficult emotions

  • Discovering natural symbols of beginnings, endings, and transformation

  • Enhancing mindfulness, mental clarity and focus, and creativity

  • Promoting experiences of awe, wonder, appreciation, and gratitude

See you on the trail!

We have many different location options for our walk and talk therapy sessions. You can choose from a variety of Philadelphia-area parks and trails, including but not limited to:

  • Wissahickon Valley Park

  • Awbury Arboretum

  • Bartram’s Garden

  • Ridley Creek State Park

  • Fort Washington State Park

  • Another local park or walking trail of your choice

I will contact you before our first session with directions to our specific location and a short checklist of items to bring to enhance your comfort and enjoyment outdoors.

How to get started

  • Step 1: Schedule

Schedule and attend your free 15-minute therapy consultation via HIPAA-compliant Zoom.

You’ll have the opportunity to ask me questions, and I’ll begin to get to know you. Together, we’ll decide if we’re a good fit for therapy.

  • Step 2: Complete

Complete my electronic intake forms to review and sign off on our mutual agreements for working together.

It’s secure and easy, and takes you one step closer to getting the support you deserve.

  • Step 3: Meet

Our initial intake session will be held via telehealth. I’ll listen and ask questions to better understand where you are coming from, and your current connection to nature.

Then we’ll start to map out your initial goals for walk and talk therapy, and select the location for your first outdoor session. Let’s lace up our hiking shoes and get moving!

 Frequently Asked Questions

  • Kudos to you for taking the courageous step of starting therapy! In our first session, I’ll walk you through understanding your history and clarifying your goals. I’m here to guide, encourage, and challenge you when needed. I view therapy as a collaboration that works best when you are an active participant in the process. Your questions and input are always welcome.

  • For new clients, I recommend meeting on a weekly basis for at least 8-10 sessions. This helps us to form a strong foundation and build momentum in our work together. After that time, if you are making progress and wish to continue with therapy, you will have the option to switch to biweekly sessions.

  • It depends! Many clients come to therapy looking for short-term relief, and many others are interested in longer-term healing. The most important thing is that you continue to grow and benefit from therapy. We will check in regularly about your goals and progress, and we will celebrate when we decide our work together is complete.

  • Our walk and talk therapy sessions are not eligible for insurance reimbursement at this time.
